Stop planning your showers around the dishwasher. A Constant Pressure System delivers strong, even water pressure to every faucet in your home—simultaneously.

Upgrade your well to “City-Like” performance today.

The "Fluctuating Pressure" Problem

If you have a standard well system, you know the struggle.

  • The Drop: You turn on the shower, and the pressure is great… for 30 seconds. Then it drops until the pump kicks back on.

  • The Conflict: If someone flushes a toilet while you are showering, you get scalded or the flow turns to a trickle.

  • Why It Happens: Standard pumps run at one speed (full blast) and rely on a large pressure tank to buffer the flow. This causes a constant 20 PSI swing (e.g., 40 to 60 PSI) that you feel every day.

What is a Constant Pressure System?

A Constant Pressure System (also called a Variable Speed Drive or VFD) changes the game.

  • Smart Technology: Instead of turning on/off, the motor spins faster or slower to match exactly how much water you are using.

  • The Result: Whether you have one faucet open or five, the pressure remains exactly where you set it (e.g., a steady 60 PSI).

  • Smaller Footprint: Because the pump does the work instantly, you can replace that giant blue pressure tank with a unit the size of a soccer ball.

Professional-Grade VFD Technology

We rely on the two industry leaders to guarantee reliability.

1. Grundfos SQE System

The Grundfos SQE is the “Ferrari” of well pumps. It is a complete wire-to-water system that features a high-efficiency permanent magnet motor.

  • Soft Start: The motor ramps up slowly, eliminating “hammering” pipes and reducing wear.

  • Dry Run Protection: If your well runs low on water, the pump automatically shuts off to prevent burning out.

2. Franklin Electric SubDrive Utility

Have a standard 2-wire pump? The SubDrive Utility is the perfect retrofit solution.

  • Upgrade Without Replacement: In many cases, we can install the SubDrive Utility controller on your existing 2-wire pump, instantly converting it to constant pressure without pulling the pump out of the well.

  • NEMA 3R Rated: The controller is built tough for indoor or outdoor installation.

How Much Does a Constant Pressure System Cost?

Many homeowners worry that this technology is out of reach. While it is an investment, we offer options to fit different budgets.

Option 1: The Retrofit (Most Affordable) If your existing pump is in good condition, we can often install a Franklin SubDrive Controller and a small pressure tank without pulling your pump out of the ground. This gives you constant pressure performance for a fraction of the price of a full system.

Option 2: The Full System (Best Value) For older wells (15+ years), we recommend the complete Grundfos SQE Package (Pump, Motor, Wire & Controller). While the upfront cost is higher, it includes a brand-new pump with a 5-year warranty, ensuring you won’t have to worry about your water for decades.

Does it pay for itself? Often, yes. Variable speed motors are highly efficient. By running at lower speeds for small water tasks (like washing hands), they consume less electricity than a standard pump that surges to 100% power every time it starts.

Why Upgrade to Variable Speed / Constant Pressure System?

  • “City-Like” Pressure: Run the dishwasher, washing machine, and lawn sprinkler at the same time with zero pressure drop.

  • Space Saving: Reclaim floor space in your basement by removing large, rusty pressure tanks.

  • Consistent Flow: No more flickering lights or thumping pipes when the pump kicks on.

Constant Pressure Well System FAQ

Do I need to replace my whole pump?

Not always. As mentioned above, we can often convert your existing conventional pump using the Franklin SubDrive Utility. However, if your pump is old, we recommend the full Grundfos SQE package for the best warranty.

Like any well pump, it needs electricity. However, these systems have built-in generator compatibility, making them easier to run on a backup generator than standard pumps because they don’t have a massive “startup spike.”

No. It only runs when you are using water. The difference is that the motor “ramps up” to match your usage. If you are just brushing your teeth, it runs at low speed. If you are filling a bathtub, it runs at high speed. It shuts off completely when no water is being used.

Usually, no. Constant pressure systems require a specific, smaller tank (typically 2 to 4 gallons) to function correctly. Your old, large pressure tank will interfere with the sensor’s ability to read the line pressure accurately. We will remove your old tank and reclaim that floor space.

Because of the “Soft Start” feature, the motor is subjected to much less stress than a standard pump that slams on and off. With proper installation, you can expect 12–15+ years of service, similar to or better than a standard well pump.

No. In fact, it is quieter than a standard system. Because the motor often runs at lower speeds (RPMs), you won’t hear the loud “clunk” of the pressure switch engaging or the vibration of the pipes that is common with traditional pumps.

t can help protect your pump, but it won’t create more water. However, the Grundfos SQE and Franklin SubDrive have built-in “Dry Run Protection.” If your well runs dry, the computer shuts the pump off instantly to prevent it from burning out, then retries automatically after a set time.

We highly recommend installing a Sediment Filter before the pressure sensor. This prevents sand or grit from clogging the tiny transducer that reads your water pressure, ensuring the system remains accurate for years.
